Johannes Kopp has made a name for himself crafting top-notch Spätburgunder in Baden, and this 2022 release shows exactly why. Sourced from 10- to 25-year-old vines on limestone-rich soils, it’s a Pinot that’s got both depth and freshness in all the right places.
After three weeks on skins, it spent nearly two years in old oak, adding just enough complexity while keeping things bright and drinkable. Juicy red and black fruit, a hint of spice, and lively acidity make it seriously easy to enjoy, whether you’re drinking it now or tucking it away for later.
It’s a cracking introduction to German Pinot and stacks up well against anything local at this price. Chill it down a little if that’s your style, or just pour a tall glass and enjoy!
Inspired by the classic ‘Burgundies’ of 1950s–70s Australia, Nick Spencer’s Light Dry Red is a fresh, modern take on those elegant, medium-bodied Shiraz-Pinot blends that once defined the Hunter Valley. This is bright, aromatic, and built for effortless drinking, but with enough depth to keep things interesting.
A 50/50 blend of Shiraz and Pinot Noir, each variety was picked and fermented separately - 100% destemmed and fermented on skins for 14 days, before spending 12 months in old puncheons and amphoras. The 2023 vintage is silky, pure, and bursting with red fruit freshness.
Aromatically, it’s blueberries, red cherries, and spice, with subtle notes of cassis and earth adding dimension. The palate is supple and juicy, with fine, powdery tannins and a clean, mouthwatering finish.
Complex yet carefree, serious yet smashable - this is modern Aussie red wine at its best.

"This is exquisite. It’s a delicacy. It’s fine and floral and spicy and berried, its flavours built on acidity, its nuances intricate. This is the polar opposite of the smack-you-in-the-face red wine style. It’s just itself, light to medium in weight, of the garden, summer berries glancing over at autumn, some apple to the acidity, its charm somewhere between studied and neglected. It won’t be everyone’s cuppa I guess, you have to slow down and take a listen to it, but for me personally this wine brings joy into the room."

The El Desperado is Tom Keelan’s rebellious take on a red blend, born from his ethos of championing alternative varieties and artisanal winemaking.
A blend of Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Shiraz, and Montepulciano sourced from The Pawn’s Macclesfield vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, this medium-bodied wine is as versatile as it is slurpable. Each variety brings its own flair: Sangiovese offers cherry cola aromatics and fine tannins, Tempranillo adds a perfumed lift and spice, Shiraz deepens the colour and delivers plush berry fruits, while Montepulciano provides a bold intensity and structure.
Since its first release in 2011, El Desperado has been aboutf breaking free from the corporate wine game to highlight the potential of overlooked varieties. This wine is made to be approachable, food-friendly, and utterly drinkable—so much so, you’ll find the bottle gone before you know it.
A bit unconventional and yet endlessly satisfying, all at a great price, this is a little ripper from Tom Keelan.
94 points & Top 100 Wines of 2024
"“Drinkability” is a rubbery term thrown around recklessly by wine types, but for me it’s best explained by reaching for a second glass and realising you’ve actually finished the bottle. Tom Keelan’s wines have always had that quality, none more so than this slippery – dare I say it, sexy – blend of sangiovese, tempranillo, shiraz and montepulciano from the Adelaide Hills. It will have you desperate for more."

The Koerner brothers are running head on at Clare Valley wine. They've put together one of the region's most dynamic ranges of wine, investigating unsung pockets of the area with energy and creativity. It's exciting stuff.
The La Korse is not your average Clare Valley red. Here the boys combine Sangiovese, Grenache and Sciaccarello with a splash of Carignan & Malbec to create a vibrant, mischievous red with epic drinkability.
This is a new look Clare Valley red.
The 2023 release of Te Mata Estate Vineyards Merlot Cabernets is a classic Hawke’s Bay blend - approachable, polished, and quietly complex. It’s crafted from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, drawing on the same varietal pedigree as Te Mata’s more iconic blends but with an easygoing, drink-anytime appeal.
It’s all about balance here. Ripe dark berries, plum, and hints of bay leaf lead the nose, while the palate is smooth and supple with layers of blackcurrant, cocoa, and savoury spice. Fine, powdery tannins and a gentle oak influence round it out, giving depth without losing freshness.
Full-bodied but never heavy, it’s a versatile red that’s ready to go now but will handle a little time in the cellar if you’re so inclined.
The 2023 Violet Hour Shiraz captures everything we love about McLaren Vale Shiraz, with a fresh, modern twist. Named after the dusky, violet-hued skies that marked the Bondars’ first-ever Shiraz harvest, this wine is all about elegance and power in perfect harmony.
From the Rayner Vineyard—a revered site where the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs meet the structure of Seaview—this Shiraz offers the best of both worlds. Bright blue and red fruits take centre stage, complemented by silky tannins and a gentle aromatic lift that gives the wine a beautiful, expansive feel without the weight of heavy oak.
"It’s kind of bang on for that philosophy of that wine. You've got this modern, more medium-bodied take on the variety, but still got lots of flavour, good tannin, no oak influence... I love it. It’s really, really fine. Exactly what we want from Violet Hour."
- Andre Bondar on the 2023 Violet Hour
With its lovely tannin structure and vibrant red fruit, the 2023 Violet Hour is both versatile and sophisticated, offering plenty of flavour for drinkers who want the plushness and complexity of McLaren Vale without the heaviness.
A must-buy for any Shiraz lover seeking something both stylish and expressive.

"The value here has always been super keen. That’s as true as ever with this iteration from a cool year, typically lifted and fragrant but also with some serious import. A tick up from mid-weight, this is spicy and peppered ferruginous minerality, along with blackberry, dark cherries, tapenade, violet, cassia, bay, coffee bean, and salted licorice. Red berries swell up on the palate, with a thoughtfully woven skein of tannins underwriting its class. Excellent."
